Realized net farm income amounted to $4.5 billion in 2010, an increase of $1.4 billion (+46.1%) from 2009 as the decline in operating costs outpaced a slight decrease in receipts. The increase in 2010 followed a 16.6% drop in 2009.

This will mean keeping the EU agriculture budget unchanged so that farmers have a reasonable incentive to meet these new challenges.

United Kingdom – FSA board agrees to take forward meat charging proposals

At its open meeting in Belfast, the Food Standards Agency Board discussed future charging for official controls on meat. Board confirmed its view that: it is not a function of the FSA to subsidise industry and if a continuing subsidy is to be provided it should come from elsewhere, providing the best possible protection for consumers from food risk should not be based on economic circumstances or the ability of an industry to pay.

China - Funds of 1.21 billion yuan to support industrialized agricultural operations

According to the National Comprehensive Agricultural Development Office, the central government has allocated subsidy funds of 1.21 billion yuan in 2011 for 2,473 projects on industrialized operations under the comprehensive agricultural development program with emphasis on the projects on development of bases for protected farming of vegetables and other crops and those for livestock and poultry farming and aquaculture, and processing and preservation of agricultural products.
