United Kingdom – Increase in pig farm incomes

Despite total Income from Farming (TIFF) in the UK fell by nearly 7 per cent in 2009, according to the latest official estimates, the value of United Kingdom pig production increased 17 percent to £1 billion, the highest value seen since 1997.

The Rural Development Committee has voted on the last proposals from Member States/regions for using EU Recovery Plan and CAP Health Check funding and other transfers within the CAP to address issues including the economic and dairy crisis, and climate change. In the period October 2009 – January 2010, all rural development programmes were modified and the additional funding of about €5 billion is now ready to be invested in agriculture, the environment and broadband in rural areas. Mexico – Help for the agricultural and livestock sector

The secretary for Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fishing and Food (SAGARPA) announced that faced with the destruction caused by meteorological phenomena in the sector, the institution has a budget of 900 million pesos available this year to insure, with the participation of the states, just over seven million hectares for cultivation and 4.5 million animal units. These resources will allow the purchase of insurance policies or the implementation of direct aid.
