Japan, Peru sign free trade pact

Japan and Peru signed a bilateral free trade agreement. Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto and Peruvian Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros endorsed the pact, which will abolish tariffs on more than 99% of the value of goods traded between the two nations within 10 years, Japanese officials said.

Realized net farm income amounted to $4.5 billion in 2010, an increase of $1.4 billion (+46.1%) from 2009 as the decline in operating costs outpaced a slight decrease in receipts. The increase in 2010 followed a 16.6% drop in 2009.

If the EU's future Common Agricultural Policy is to enjoy the support of all EU taxpayers, it must be equipped to provide food security and environmental protection, create new jobs and provide renewable energy, argued the EP Agriculture Committee on Wednesday. This will mean keeping the EU agriculture budget unchanged so that farmers have a reasonable incentive to meet these new challenges.
