Russia - Temporary restrictions on import of breeding animals from a number of Danish farms

In 2010 the Rosselkhoznadzor authorized import of 1360 breeding pigs from Denmark to the Belgorodskaya Oblast. The animals were imported in three consignments accompanied with phytosanitary certificates issued by the National Veterinary Service of Denmark according to which the animals were clinically healthy. 320 animals with lesions on legs and limp were detected in the course of the daily clinical examination in the quarantine period.

China´s feed industry realized 426.6 billion Rmb output

According to the report released by China Feed Industry Association in the Sixth Major Corporation Exchanging Meet, China's feed output in the year of 2009 has arrived up to 148 million tons from 2000's 74.29 million tons. Gross product was promoted from 158 billion yuan to 426.6 billion yuan.

Vietnam - The growing shortfall in Vietnam’s domestic supply of pork: Significance and policy implications

Following Vietnam’s market reforms, its domestic production and per capita consumption of pork have risen substantially. Vietnamese demand for pork has risen due to higher incomes, an increasing population and growing urbanization. Vietnam’s increased pork supply occurred because of an increase in its stock of pigs and greater pork yields, the relative importance of which has varied.

EuroTier 2010: World's top event for animal production

The DLG (German Agricultural Society), organiser of the world's largest exhibition for animal production, EuroTier, reports outstanding exhibitor participation figures this year. With 1,939 direct exhibitors and 28 additionally represented companies from altogether 49 different countries, figures are around eight percent higher than the previous record level.

United Kingdom - British pig production still lags behind

Despite improvements in daily liveweight gain and pigs finished per sow, Britain still lags behind its European competition in the production stakes. The latest figures from the BPEX publication on international cost of production show Britain produced 1643kg pig meat per sow in 2009 – the lowest of all the EU countries.

FAO - Unless production of major food crops increases significantly in 2011

International prices of most agricultural commodities have increased in recent months, some sharply. The FAO Food Price index has gained 34 points since the previous Food Outlook report in June, averaging 197 points in October, only 16 points short from its peak in June 2008. The upward movements of prices were connected with several factors, the most important of which were a worsening of the outlook for crops in key producing countries, which is likely to require large draw downs of stocks and result in tighter global supply and demand balances in 2010/11.
