Growing visitor numbers despite worldwide recession at VIV Russia 2009

The fourth edition of VIV Russia took place from 26-28 May 2009 at the Crocus Exhibition Center in Moscow. Despite the deep recession, in which both the Russian livestock sector as the Russian economy is embedded (-5%), VIV Russia 2009 welcomed 6,335 visitors which is an increase of 14% in comparison to 2008. The number of foreign visitors increased from 25% to 30%.

Tyson Foods’ Archie Schaffer Named Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs

Leland Tollett, interim president and chief executive officer of Tyson Foods, Inc., today named Archie Schaffer executive vice president, corporate affairs, a new position that is intended to enhance and expand the company’s role in the business community. Tollett also announced that Sara Lilygren, Tyson’s vice president, federal governmental relations in Washington, D.C., will move to Springdale, AR, to become senior vice president, external relations at the end of June.

DLG Trendmonitor results: Continued investment despite challenging conditions

This spring the Trendmonitor surveyed 3,500 farmers in eight countries – Germany, France, UK, Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Included in the survey for the first time were top farming decision makers in Russia and the Ukraine: and responses from the new countries emphasised the continued importance of markets for agricultural machinery in eastern Europe and further afield.

North American H1N1 influenza update

The usual pig viruses are H1N1, H3N2 and H1N2. The original H1N1 pig viruses have been largely replaced by poultry viruses in pigs. The H3N2 viruses were from humans originally. The H1N2 viruses are re-assortants from human viruses (H and N genes) and poultry viruses.
