European Union- Commissioner Dalli is considering tougher EU legislation to make food and feed safety systems more efficient

Commissioner Dalli gave a speech on 17 January 2011 in the EP plenary in Strasbourg. In the speech the Commissioner gives an overview of the contamination incident, highlighting the good co-operation between the Commission and the German authorities and providing an outlook on the measures which could be envisaged at EU level to further improve the EU feed and food safety system.

USA - OLCSB swine committee recommends stall-free by 2025

After several hours of intense discussion and deliberation, the swine subcommittee for the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board decided to remove an exemption in its recommendations, that would have allowed existing swine producers to expand their stall-based facilities beyond 2025.

FAO - Soaring food prices raise new crisis fears
