Poland - Information on the Aujeszky’s disease situation

The latest figures presented to the European Commission by the Polish veterinary authorities on the status of Aujeszky’s disease in Poland indicate that from a total of 16 regions, there are 8 with a prevalence of 0.5% while the other 8 have a prevalence of between 0.5% and 5%, while there are no zones with a prevalence of over 5%.

European Union - Commission authorises Bulgaria to grant limited amounts of aid in the agricultural sector

The European Commission authorised a Bulgarian scheme with a budget of BGN 20 million (approximately € 10,26 million) which aims at supporting agricultural holdings active in the primary production, marketing and processing of agricultural products who encounter difficulties as a result of the current economic crisis. Aid under this scheme can be granted until 31 December 2010 and will take the form of a direct grant.

Canada's economic action plan invests in Manitoba's hog industry

The Government of Canada is delivering real results for the meat packing and processing sector in Manitoba. The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, today announced an investment of $567,500 in Country Meat and Sausage, which is being delivered through Canada's Economic Action Plan.

European Union - Quantitative microbiological risk assessment on salmonella in slaughter and breeder pigs: final report

Following a request from the European Commission, the Panel on Biological Hazards was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on a Quantitative Microbiological Risk Assessment (QMRA) of Salmonella in slaughter and breeder pigs. The assessment would provide the input for a future cost/benefit analysis of setting a target for reduction in slaughter pigs at EU level. EFSA commissioned a QMRA modelling the pig meat food chain from farm to fork.
