Berkshire a triticale treat for pigs

To encourage the 2010 growing of Berkshire, the new high yielding triticale, meetings of triticale growers, agronomists, pork producers and feed mills were recently hosted by Australia’s Pork Cooperative Research Centre (CRC), co-developer of the variety with The University of Sydney and the Grains Research and Development Corporation.

European Union - Food quality: legislation hended

Plans for an EU food quality policy, intended to add value to the economies of Europe's regions, are set out in a resolution drafted by Giancarlo SCOTTÀ (EFD, IT) and approved by Parliament as a whole on Thursday. This resolution responds to a Commission consultation paper on EU food quality policy and forms part of a wider debate in Parliament on the future aims of the Common Agricultural Policy.

Aiming for 1,000-gram growth in fattening pigs: factors for success and points of improvement

Wageningen UR Livestock Research is studying the growth and feed conversion of fattening pigs. The most important success factors which contribute to a good performance are associated with hygiene, nutrition, shelter, climate, delivery management, and structured working methods. The most important points where improvements can be made are associated with the quality of the pigs, external and internal biosecurity, and feeding.
