Chile Sixth place as pork exporting country

According to estimations by the USDA, Chile was the sixth largest producer of pork throughout 2010. In this same period, 357 million dollars worth of pork was exported, the main destinations being Japan (41%); South Korea (28%); EU (9%) and America (13%). Currently, Chilean pork is exported to 39 different commercial destinations.

Paraguay signs agricultural agreements with FAO

Paraguay and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization signed three cooperation agreements in this capital Monday linked to food programs worth over one million USD. The documents were signed by Paraguayan Foreign Minister Jorge Lara and Alberto Lopez Meza, FAO representative in Paraguay.

Germany – Slight increase in 2010 meat production and consumption

According to the German Federal Statistics Office, in 2010 a total of 58.350.000 pigs were slaughtered, which represents an increase of 3,6% compared to last year. The number of pigs imported, mainly from the Netherlands and Denmark, rose to 5,2 million with 9% of the total slaughtered. The capacity for production increased to 5,4 million tons, rising by 3,8% with respect to the year before.

China/Netherlands sign memo on quarantine to boost trade

Starting in May, China can check sanitary certificate information on dairy products and pork imports from the Netherlands through the Internet; meanwhile, Dutch importers can verify electronic certificates on the inspection and quarantine of Chinese food and agricultural products, according to the Sino-Dutch memo.

United Kingdom – Increase in imports of fresh and frozen pork

In the first two months of 2011 imports of fresh and frozen pork into the UK totalled 56,000 tonnes, representing an increase of four per cent on year earlier figures. The majority of product came from Denmark which recorded a 40 per cent increase in shipments. Imports from the Netherlands recorded an 11 per cent decline.

Chile - Ready to export pork to China

The news came up in a meeting held by the Minister of Agriculture, José Antonio Galilea, on an official visit to China, and the Director of the Administration on the Supervision of Quality and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ), Zhi Shuping, with whom he discussed several issues related with authorization of sending new agricultural products from Chile, to China.
