United Kingdom - Two tonne target for English pig producers

English pig producers have a challenging new target, to achieve an industry average of 2,000kg of pig meat per sow per year by 2012. The Two Tonne Sow (2TS) project was launched by BPEX at the British Pig and Poultry Fair and provides a single target for the industry to work towards collectively.

China reopens to U.S. pork

China this afternoon gave notice that it is ready to accept imports of U.S. pork, following negotiations between Chinese and U.S. officials in March that led to an agreement in which China pledged to reopen its markets to U.S. pork. U.S. pork produced on or after May 1 can now be exported to China.

Spain – Increase in Iberian ham exports

Exports of quality Iberian ham increased during 2009 by a little over 10% and the product was commercialized in 90 countries in five continents, this was equivalent to 200,000 Iberian hams being exported from Spain last year.
