An independent review commissioned by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) shows that there are no important differences in the nutrition content, or any additional health benefits, of organic food when compared with conventionally produced food. The focus of the review was the nutritional content of foodstuffs.

Larabee, IA, pork producer Tim Bierman has been elected by his fellow board members as president of the National Pork Board. Gene Nemechek, DVM, swine veterinarian with Tyson Foods in Springdale, AR, has been elected vice president. Both begin immediately serving one-year terms.

China - Hog production increases

Denmark - Positive forecast for pig production

The Agriculture and Food Council’s recently published prognosis on pig meat prices and earnings in pig production indicates stability for the rest of current year and for next year as well. The significant fluctuations, which we have seen during the last six months, will ease off. The current expectations are stable compared to the announcement as of March 2009.
