Russia’s swine inventory will likely grow about 2.7 percent to 17.545 million head at the end of December 2012 from 17.2 million head at the end of December 2011, supported by lower feed prices in the second half of the year and increased state support.

Spain - 1% increase in pork production during the first quarter

The latest data published by the Spanish Minister of Agriculture’s statistics service indicate that throughout the month of April the number of animals slaughtered decreased by 6.7% compared to the same month last year. However, thanks to the increases observed during the first three months of the year, slaughters in the first quarter have increased by 1.14% with respect to the year before, with 13,565,163 animals slaughtered compared with the 13,412,688 animals slaughtered between January and April of 2010.

Denmark - Decrease in swine census

The latest data published by the Danish Statistics Service on the swine census during the second trimester of this year show a 2,25% decrease in the total number of swine with respect to the same period last year (11.932.000 animals as opposed to 12.208.000).

Germany – Slight increase in 2010 meat production and consumption

According to the German Federal Statistics Office, in 2010 a total of 58.350.000 pigs were slaughtered, which represents an increase of 3,6% compared to last year. The number of pigs imported, mainly from the Netherlands and Denmark, rose to 5,2 million with 9% of the total slaughtered. The capacity for production increased to 5,4 million tons, rising by 3,8% with respect to the year before.
