Russia’s swine inventory will likely grow about 2%

According to FAS-USDA report, Russia’s swine inventory will likely grow about 2% to 17.5 million head at the end of December 2011 from 17.2 million head at the end of December 2010, as grain from the new harvest takes pressure off feed prices in the second half of the year.

Austria - Number of pigs stable

For the reference date 1 December 2010, Statistics Austria reports a total number of 3.134.000 pigs (-0,1% compared to 2009). A marginal increase was observed within the number of piglets and young pigs (+0.3% to 1 604 000 animals). The number of pigs for fattening purposes increased during the same period by 0.1% to 1 245 000 head while the number of pigs for breeding decreased by 3.1% to 285 000 animals.

Germany - Record meat production in 2010

Total commercial meat production in Germany reached a record value of 8.0 million tonnes in 2010. As further reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), that is an increase of 302,000 tonnes or 3.9% on the previous year.
